Pages Menu

Overview

This lesson is focused on how we can build and structure our new application organizing the navigation under Pages Menu in Wayfast. This feature allow us to preview the different pages allocated in each menu created in the project.

Pages Menu

Preconditions

First, we need to create a Project and build the structure with database and active Requirements. Under this project, let’s be sure that we have multiple pages created and also we will need to create multiple menu items like we did in previous lessons. This is important to verify how this page menu will group these items and improve app navigation.

How to navigate through the Pages Menu?

Let’s take an example from General Options - Menu for this project:

In this structure, we can observed a Landing Page with one submenu item associated. Below this menu item, there are two other listed sections. If we want to see how this menu is being rendered in the application, let’s go to “Project Pages” section and click on “Pages Menu” tab

This screen is showing page's structure according to the order and hierarchy established in “Menu” screen in “General Options” section. For example, “Landing Page” is linked to the “Dashboard” page and there’s a submenu item that is listed below.

If the user set an “Initial Page” checkbox on any of the pages created, we will observed this as separated menu item even if this was included on one of the menu items.

How to preview the Pages Menu in the app?

Let’s observe how this Pages Menu structure is displayed in the application. Click on the page’s link associated to the menu. The page’s detail will be displayed with all the datasets, controls and actions that we created.

Click on the “Preview” button. Changes should be immediately reflected in the application. In some cases we may not see the changes in Preview mode. This is usually related to browser caching the previous version. In this case you just need to clear your browser’s cache.

In the header section, we will see all the menu items and the submenu items organized.

Remember Menu options visibility depends on User’s roles. You can learn more about this in the “Menu” lesson.

Recap

During this lesson we learnt how to organize pages through an application menu to provide Users with a way to access Applications features and speed up navigation. Menus have a tremendous impact on your application’s user experience so make sure your app is user friendly.
